Marc Elrich Is Certified As Democratic Nominee for County Executive

SILVER SPRING, Md._

Following a recount that confirmed Democrat Marc Elrich’s victory in the Democratic primary for Montgomery County Executive, the Montgomery County Elections Board re-certified the results Wednesday morning.

“It is a great honor and privilege to be the Democratic nominee for County Executive,”Marc Elrich said. “I am grateful to the many who supported my campaign in so many different ways, including voting for me! I want to thank my primary opponents for engaging in many thoughtful conversations about how to make Montgomery County better. I also want to thank the Board of Elections and their staff who have spent long hours to ensure that this election was fair.”

“I am excited as we move into the general election and I look forward to continuing to address the best ways to help everyone in our County. I also look forward to working with the Democratic leadership and organizations to secure victory for our Democratic candidates up and down the ballot in November.”

Democratic leaders and elected officials are uniting behind Marc Elrich’s proven, progressive leadership. Both Maryland US Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, as well as Congressman Jamie Raskin and the chair of the state Democratic Party, Kathleen Matthews have expressed their congratulations.

Marc Elrich, the Democratic nominee for County Executive, has been an at-large Montgomery County Councilmember since 2006. He chairs the Public Safety Committee, serves on the Education Committee, and is the County Council’s representative to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Transportation Planning Board.
