NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland PAC Endorses Marc Elrich for County Executive

SILVER SPRING, Md._ On May 4, NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland PAC endorsed Marc Elrich for Montgomery County Executive, calling him a “Champion of Choice.” NARAL believes “that every woman should be able to make personal decisions about the full range of reproductive health options” and “works to protect every individual’s right to access the full range of reproductive health options, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.”

While multiple candidates received 100% pro-choice ratings, NARAL endorsed Elrich because of his leadership on issues of choice throughout his career in public office. He has, for example, questioned what can be done about survivors of sexual violence arriving at or being taken to local hospitals which don’t offer the full range of reproductive choices, such as the morning after pill.

“We appreciate your commitment to reproductive health, rights, and justice, and are proud to support your willingness to stand firm in protecting and advancing reproductive freedom in our state,” said Mark Stover, Chair of NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland PAC. In a press release accompanying the endorsement announcement, Stover added that candidates like Elrich were chosen for endorsement because they “are willing to proudly stand and fight to protect and advance reproductive health, rights, and justice in our state.”

“I have been a full and unequivocal supporter of women’s reproductive health for my entire adult life and am honored to receive NARAL’s endorsement,” Elrich said. “Especially in a county in which many candidates are pro-choice, it means a lot to be the candidate seen as a leader on issues of women’s health. Increasing access to women’s right to choose is always a priority in my mind and will continue to be a focus of mine when I am County Executive.”

Marc Elrich has been an at-large Montgomery County Councilmember since 2006. He chairs the Public Safety Committee, serves on the Education Committee, and is the County Council’s representative to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Transportation Planning Board. Prior to his election to the County Council, he served on the Takoma Park City Council for 19 years and taught at Rolling Terrace Elementary School for 17 years. For more information, see
