Montgomery County Police Endorse Marc Elrich for County Executive

Silver Spring, Md._ On April 7, Lodge 35 of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP 35), which represents Montgomery County’s police officers, announced their endorsement of Marc Elrich for County Executive. Elrich, who chairs the County Council’s Public Safety Committee, has also been endorsed by Montgomery County’s Career Fire Fighters and a wide variety of progressive organizations, including CASA in Action, Progressive Maryland, the Green Democrats, and Jews United for Justice.

“Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35 recognizes that Marc, through his leadership on the county’s public safety committee, has committed to ensuring police officers have what they need to protect our community,” said FOP 35 President Torrie Cooke. “Marc has given unwavering support to funding more school resource officers, police body cameras, improvements to the computer-automated dispatch system, and police community outreach. FOP Lodge 35 intends to partner with Marc to further the efforts of providing a safe place to live and work, and to make much needed commonsense improvements to working police officers’ benefits and working conditions.”

During his time on the County Council, Elrich has worked to ensure that police officers have the resources they need to keep residents safe. He and officers have also partnered to ensure that the department is one of the leading police departments in the country in being effective while also respecting the rights of all the county’s residents.

“I am proud and honored to receive this endorsement, “Elrich said. “The women and men who serve as police officers work hard to protect us every day, and they have worked proactively to build partnerships and trust in the community. I look forward to working with them as we move forward.”
