Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters Endorse Marc Elrich for County Executive

Silver Spring, Md._ On February 28, Local 1664 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, which represents Montgomery County’s career fire fighters, announced their endorsement of Marc Elrich for County Executive. The 1500-member-strong fire fighters union cited Elrich’s leadership as the chair of the county’s Public Safety Committee and his open door policy as reasons for their support.

“Marc is a true leader that works with the career fire fighters to ensure the best interest of the citizens are always first and foremost,” said Jeffrey Buddle, President of the Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters Association. “We are proud to give Marc Elrich our support and will work hard to make sure he is our next County Executive that will work to keep Montgomery County moving forward to be the best it can be under his leadership.”

Elrich has worked hard to provide the fire service with adequate resources so they can reduce emergency response times and better serve the public. His critical questions about how service is provided have helped the department manage its increasing role in responding to emergency medical situations while protecting fire fighter safety. He has supported four-person staffing, for example, which ensures that every fire engine will carry a fire fighter paramedic in addition to three other fire fighters. Elrich also continues to look for creative ways to expand the fire service to meet Montgomery County’s evolving needs and values career fire fighter expertise and input on issues ranging from emergency medical response to complex multi-family structure fires, swift water rescue, fire code enforcement, community outreach, and more.

“Our fire fighters are willing to put their lives on the line every day to make sure Montgomery County residents are safe and I am honored to have their support,” Elrich said. “I have always appreciated IAFF Local 1664’s constructive partnership in working together to make sure they have the training, equipment, and the resources they need to keep us safe.
