Two More Endorsements for Marc Elrich for County Executive

SILVER SPRING, Md._ On February 7, the Baltimore Washington Laborers’ District Council (BWLDC), an affiliate of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA), announced their endorsement of Marc Elrich for Montgomery County Executive. The BWLDC, a construction workers union that represents over 7,000 members in the Baltimore-Washington area, many of whom live and work in Montgomery County, cited Elrich’s experience as a public school teacher and his consistent commitment to worker rights as reasons for the union’s support.

The BWLDC endorsement closely follows an endorsement from the Montgomery County Federation of Teachers (MCFT), a small local affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers that represents tutors seeking health insurance. MCFT President Joseph Monte said Elrich earned the union’s endorsement for County Executive because “he is the candidate whose solutions reflect consideration of the common good of citizens.”

With the announcements from the BWLDC and the MCFT, Elrich has now received the endorsements of six organizations overall.

“I’m honored by the outpouring of support I have received from the labor, immigrant, and broader progressive communities,” Elrich said. “Making a difference in people’s abilities to achieve better working conditions for themselves, more resources for their families, and an overall better society is what being involved in the political process is all about, and I’m glad I’ve been able to do that during my time as an elected official.”

Marc Elrich has been an at-large Montgomery County Councilmember since 2006. He chairs the Public Safety Committee, serves on the Education Committee, and is the County Council’s representative to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Transportation Planning Board. Prior to his election to the County Council, he served on the Takoma Park City Council for 19 years and taught at Rolling Terrace Elementary School for 17 years.
